June at the Hornell Public Library: Pride Community Art Class, Hiking 101, & Bike Safety for Kids!

Don’t miss all the great programs at HPL !!

The Hornell Public Library has a wide variety of programs being offered throughout the month of June. Teens and adults are invited to celebrate Pride Month with a Community Art Class and learn more about hiking at a Hiking 101 discussion group. Families will also be able to attend exciting story times including a special Eid al-Adha story time followed by a Chai & Chat for adults. Registration is required for all events, so call the library to sign up at 607-324-1210.

Announcements

Summer Reading Registration: Adventure Begins at Your Library this summer! Registration for the Hornell Public Library’s Summer Reading Program starts June 24th. All ages are welcome to register.

New Chess Times: The library’s weekly chess programs will be offered at new times for the next few weeks. Chess Lessons will now be offered from 5 PM to 6 PM followed by Open Chess from 6 PM to 7 PM.

Cardboard Donations: The library is asking for donations of larger cardboard pieces that will be used for Summer Reading decorations.

Library Closings: The library will be closed Friday, June 14th for renovations and Wednesday, June 19th in observance of Juneteenth.

Featured Programs

LGBTQ+ Pride Community Art Class* – June 8th from 11 AM to 2 PM. Free art class led by teaching artist Nada Odeh! Come discuss the history and experiences of the LGBTQ+ community and create your own collage or painting after. There are limited seats available so call the library to sign up now!

Come Learn About Eid al-Adha: Children’s Story Time and Adult Chai & Chat – June 10th from 4:30 to 6 PM. Bring your family for a fun Eid al-Adha story time where you will learn about the Muslim holiday at 4:30 PM. At 5 PM, adults can enjoy a Chai & Chat session with some tasty drinks and great discussions!

Programs for Kids

STEAM Story Times – Saturdays at 11 AM. Come join us each Saturday in June as we read fun books and participate in cool STEAM activities after.

Bike Safety for Kids in Partnership with the Hornell Police Department – June 20th at 5 PM. Calling all young bicyclists! Come to this program located in the library’s back parking lot to learn the basics of bike safety. The Hornell Police Department will teach kids how to stay safe wherever you ride using a practice course. This is great preparation for the library’s Community Bike Ride on July 31st! Make sure to wear your helmets.

Writers Group with Lee Marcus – June 1st at 10 AM

Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group – June 6th at 12:30 PM

Adult Book Club: The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson – June 11th at 6 PM

Hiking 101: Discussion Group with Steve Markel – June 12th at 6 PM. Have you been wanting to go hiking more? Looking for other hikers to share your experiences with and ask questions? Then this is the perfect program for you! Come prep for your summer adventures.

Tech Help – By Appointment. Need help with your phone or tablet? Looking for tips on how to stay safe online or use the library’s digital resources? Then call the library today to set up a one-on-one Tech Help appointment with one of their staff members to get all of your questions answered.

Recurring Programs

Crochet for Beginners – Mondays, 5:00-7:00 PM (Don’t have your own hooks? Borrow a crochet kit from the library’s Tool Lending Shed!)

Chess Lessons – Thursdays, 5:00-6:00 PM

Open Chess – Thursdays, 6:00-7:00 PM

The Hornell Public Library is located at 64 Genesee Street, Hornell, NY. The library’s open hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Wednesday 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Friday 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM, and Saturday 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
