BATH – Two intermunicipal agreements before the Steuben County Legislature Monday will provide more safety for area residents.

The first agreement, with the Village of Bath, will provide $5,400 for the purchase of two cameras to be installed in the bus stop location in the village-owned parking lot adjacent to the County Office Building. County funding for the project is through Steuben’s Law Enforcement Grant Program.

The second agreement will further ongoing plans to provide more readily available emergency medical response in underserved regions in Steuben.

The plan calls for Intermunicipal Agreement and Lease with the Woodhull Fire District for use of their equipment for providing Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support services for $10,000 per year when the equipment is not in use by the Woodhull district.

The lease allows for improved life support services and ambulance transport services for emergency medical care to the sick and injured within the centrally located fire district and its mutual aid communities.

The Woodhull Fire District owns a New York State inspected and certified ambulance that is suitable for use by the county in providing ambulance services, and it has been determined by the district that permitting the county to lease their ambulance is in the best interests and safety of its residents and firefighters.

Other action before Steuben lawmakers includes:

·         Accepting a Senior Companion Program grant for $202,356 through the Corporation for National and Community Service (AmeriCorps), to be used to promote independent living in older adults and people with disabilities. More details on the grant will be made at a later date.

·         Approving a 5-year shared services agreement between the county Public Works Department and the county Soil and Water Conservation District (SCSWCD). Both parties’ services overlap, and they have a long history of inter-agency cooperation. Steuben’s support of the SCSWCD allows the district to draw funds from other state and federal sources.
