The boulder at the Hornell NYS Armory lists patriotic women from the Canisteo Valley
From the DAR,
The Kanestio Valley Chapter commemorated its founding female members by affixing another bronze plaque to honor those same patriotic women who founded the Kanestio Valley Chapter in 1897. This new bronze plaque lists each founder by name on the same boulder they placed and erected 121 years ago.
These twenty inspiring women from the Canisteo and Hornell area formed the Kanestio Valley Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution in 1897.
On Memorial Day 1903, Hornell, NY., these ladies chose to pay tribute to the American Patriots in a lasting way with a large boulder standing twelve feet high and six feet wide. It was placed in front of the Hornell NYS Armory on Seneca Street honoring the Patriots of the American Revolution buried in the Upper Canisteo Valley featuring the names of fifty-seven American Patriots.
Please stop and read the names of both the men and women on this boulder. Perhaps you are related to one of them. With the tools the internet provides us, you may be able to research your own family genealogy and find out if one of your ancestors is named on this boulder.
