WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) announced that Chemung County will receive a substantial grant of $949,577 for the Elmira Corning Regional Airport as part of the FY24 Airport Improvement Program (AIP) under the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The grant will support phase 1 of a critical project focused on reconstructing the lighting and signage on Runway 6/24 that have reached the end of their useful life, as well as reinforcing the structural integrity of the paved runway, and reconstructing Taxiway A.

“The Elmira Corning Regional Airport is a vital transportation hub for our region, and this grant will ensure it continues to operate at the highest standards of safety and reliability,” said Congressman Langworthy. “I’m proud to support federal investments in our airport infrastructure to bolster the Southern Tier’s economy and connectivity.”

The Airport Improvement Program provides grants to public agencies for the planning and development of public-use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). These funds are critical for the continued growth and safety of the aviation sector and for meeting the evolving needs of the communities they serve.

According to AIP, this grant funds phase 1 of a project that involves reconstructing the existing lighting and signage on Runway 6/24, rehabilitating 8,000 feet of the runway, and reconstructing 570 feet of Taxiway A to extend their useful life and maintain safety.

Congressman Nick Langworthy represents the 23rd Congressional District of New York, including Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben Counties, and parts of Erie County. Visit langworthy.house.gov.
