The Steuben County History Week Museum Trail, sponsored by the County Historian, the Steuben County Historical Society, plus contributions from Town Historians and county historical societies, will take place on Saturday, October 19, and Sunday, October 20.

Twenty county historical societies and museums are participating in the event, with a North Trail and a South Trail, from Wayland to West Union, from Prattsburgh to Painted Post, in unique settings that range from former depots, churches, schoolhouses, general stores, mansions or humble homes, cheese factory, and even wigwams.

Treasures and historical highlights will be on exhibit at every stop, and there will be a “Mystery Item” and a scavenger challenge.  A map and a booklet can be downloaded from: https://bit.ly/SC-HistoryTrailMap.  The hours are Saturday, 10am – 5pm; Sunday, noon – 5pm. The newly acquired home of the Canisteo Valley Historical Society, Arkport, is on the Northern Route of the Trail.  In the midst of renovation, the Society will host an “as-is” stop on the trail.  There will be a temporary timeline exhibit about Arkport’s history filling the two front rooms.  In addition, during the Museum Trail event, the Society is inviting all area residents to a SOFT OPENING of the house. Everyone is welcome to stop in to visit the house and to enjoy the Museum Trail stop.
