Adam Winter, Brandon Stanton, and Matt Stungis (L to R) represented Alfred State
A trio of Pioneers, Brandon Stanton (Union Springs, NY), Adam Winter (Clifton Park, NY), and Matt Stungis (Neversink, NY) represented Alfred State at the 2024 USA Archery Collegiate 3D National Championships held in Foley, AL.
Stanton led the way with a score of 411. His precision on bonus rings and a strong second round put him up eleven points and helped him to a 31st place finish out of 65 archers in his class.
Winter finished 21st out of 82 archers in the men’s fixed pins competition. He scored a 398 (out of 400) including a score of 208/200 on the second day of competition.
Stungis finished 52 out of 65 archers in his class with a score of 367.
The ASC team along with 470 athletes from thirty different colleges and universities battled the weather early in the competition.
“The weather was tough to start and played a factor,” commented Head Coach Greg Sammons. “Our archers battled through and finished strong with excellent performances on day two. We will build on this effort as we move to the indoor season.”
The event wrapped up the fall outdoor portion of the season. The team will turn their training towards indoor competition. They will next compete at the Lancaster (PA) Classic & Easton Collegiate Trophy Tournament in January 2025.
