The Hornell Red Raiders improve to 3-2 on the season and 3-0 in LCAA in their 72-30 win over the visiting Wayland-Cohocton Golden Eagles Friday night.

The game got off to a slow start with the Raiders up 12-6 after the first quarter of play.  Hornell scored 5 3-pointers in the second quarter to put the Red Raiders up 33-13 going into halftime.

“Tonight, I thought the bench sparked us in the first quarter,” said Hornell coach, Kirk Scholes.  “We weren’t playing well and Nick, Marco, and Ben came into the game and made plays defensively.  Ben had 8 points early and I thought it settled us down.”

“As the game moved forward,” Scholes continued, “Demayne and Wyatt got going.  They did a good job of playing off each other.  Knocking down 11 3’s for us was a good sight to see because we have been struggling.  I hope this is the confidence boost we need to be confident shooters.”

Wyatt Evingham and Demayne Dixon each tallied 19 points for the Red Raiders. Evingham netted 5 3s on the night.

Charlie Mulford scored 12 points for thr Golden Eagles.

“Overall, I was really happy with our defense,” said Scholes.  “We did a good job on the defensive back board and limited them to one shot.  We also applied pressure and turned them over a few times.  We still have a bunch of things we can improve on.  I think we can be a really good defensive team.  We have to talk more and be a more physical team on the boards.”

The Raiders travel to Brighton next Friday to take on the  AA1 Bruins.
