Board of Public Safety Commends Hornell Police Officer Taylor Waite for “life-saving measures”

Mayor Buckley: We are especially grateful for this positive outcome

The Board of Public Safety commended Officer Taylor Waite for her swift actions during a medical emergency on November 30, 2024, which contributed to the survival of a City resident.

Chief Ted Murray recognized Officer Waite after reviewing body cam footage of her response, stating: “Your quick actions and life-saving measures, both before and after the arrival of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), were paramount in saving this man’s life.”

Chief Murray further highlighted Officer Waite’s efficient and compassionate response, noting her ability to provide critical care while also easing the concerns of all involved.

Commissioners Scott Richardson and David Parmley, along with Mayor John Buckley, joined Chief Murray in honoring Officer Waite’s outstanding efforts with a letter of commendation added to her personnel file.

In his letter penned to the Board, Chief Murray remarked, “It’s rewarding to see such a new member of our department taking on this role of actions that positively affect our community. Keep up the great work!”

Reflecting on the incident, Officer Waite expressed gratitude for being close to the scene, which helped contribute to the positive outcome.

Mayor Buckley stated, “Police officers are often the first to arrive at emergencies, and having life-saving skills can make all the difference. I deeply appreciate Officer Waite’s quick response and her dedication in assisting a member of our community until EMS arrived. We are especially grateful for this positive outcome.”
