Letter to the Editor: Taking from the poor to provide for the rich is bad tax policy

“26% of Allegany County’s children live in poverty”

Dear Editor,

The recent extension of the 2017 tax cuts by the House of Representatives will mostly benefit the wealthy at the expense of working families. Taxpayers with incomes of $750,000 will receive a tax break of $61,000,  while those with incomes of $96,000 will receive $400. The $400 will be quickly eaten up by the various tariffs recently enacted. To pay for these cuts our Representative Nick Langworthy and his party will be cutting Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans Affairs, food assistance, the Child Tax Credit and a host of other programs to take from the poor to give to the rich.

Time and time again false claims are made that tax breaks for corporations and the wealthy will stimulate the economy and trickle down to working people. The data shows no such effect.

In Allegany County alone there over 2,800 families in poverty, including 26% of children and 7% of senior citizens. Please call Representative Langworthy at 585.543.5033 and tell him to stop making poor and working class families pay for tax breaks for the wealthy.

Sincerely,

Joseph Dosch, Alfred NY
