Canisteo Chief of Police investigation ends with guilty plea to misdemeanor, resignation

Kyle Amidon was convicted by a special prosecutor of Filing a False Instrument

For over a year the residents of the village of Canisteo have demanded answers after now former Chief of Police Kyle Amidon was placed on administrative leave. After an anonymous letter was delivered to the village government outlining misconduct, some residents demanded justice, others insisted on Amidon’s return to work.

Due to conflicts of interest, the Schuyler County District Attorney conducted the investigation into questionable time cards and the dealings of the Canisteo Police Club.

In the end, the charges brought forced Amidon to resign his post as Chief and repay over thirteen thousand dollars in restitution. Amidon was also sentenced to a 1 year conditional discharge, meaning the criminal charges will be dropped after one year of lawful behavior.

Amidon also serves as the Chief of Police in the Village of North Hornell. According to the village website, Amidon continues to serve as Chief of Police.
