Colin Johnson will be the Hornell Steamers Head Coach for the 2025 season

From the Hornell Steamers,

Former Hornell Dodger and current Alfred State assistant coach Colin Johnson will lead the Hornell Steamers in 2025. Johnson is the second former Dodger to serve as the head coach of the franchise.

Johnson, who went to high school at Alfred Almond, played collegiately at Alfred State and spent each of his summers behind the plate for the Dodgers. At ASC, he played in 100 games, hit ten homers, and drove in 77 runs. For the Dodgers, he played three summers and hit .261 with seven homers and 49 RBI.

After graduation, Johnson played in the Pecos League, a west coast independent league. He played in the Pecos League for four summers, two with the Alpine Cowboys and two with the Tucson Saguaros. He appeared in 103 games, hit ten homers and drove in 75.

During the school year, Johnson has served as an assistant coach with both the Alfred State baseball and wrestling teams.

“I am excited to have Colin lead the team in 2025,” commented Hornell Steamers General Manager Paul Welker. “He has jumped in feet first and has done a great job. I am excited to see him interact with our players and bring an exciting brand of baseball this summer to Hornell.”

Welker continued, “I want to thank Blaine Spencer for all the work on putting the groundwork together for this roster. Blaine did an amazing job in Hornell last summer and the organization wishes him all the best in his new position as a full time assistant baseball coach at Nunez CC.”

Johnson will be assisted by Jake Kenney and Tim Mack.

  • Kenney is no stranger to the Hornell bench as he returns for his third straight season. He has also served as the head coach of the franchise after playing for the team for three years.
  • Mack who played collegiately at Alfred State and joined the coaching staff last year. Last summer he worked in the front office with the Batavia Muckdogs of the Perfect Game League.

Hornell, the oldest franchise in the New York Collegiate Baseball League, begins the 2025 season on Friday, June 6 when they host the Horseheads Hitmen at 7 p.m.
