CEO Wendy Disbrow: We are deeply grateful to the Shick Family

From the St. James Foundation,

On June 27, the Shick family proudly hosted the 11th Annual Shick Family Charity Golf Classic at the Hornell Golf Club, raising $15,000 for the St. James Foundation. This generous donation brings the total amount contributed from the event to over $90,000 since its inception.

The golf classic was founded in 2014 to honor the memory of William Shick, the family patriarch, and later also Anita Shick, the beloved matriarch who helped lead the event until her passing in 2021. The tournament has become a cherished tradition, celebrating family legacy while supporting local healthcare.

This year’s event continued under the leadership of Abbie Shick, who took over organizing responsibilities in 2024. Her dedication and passion have helped the tournament grow and thrive.

“It’s hard to believe we’ve been doing this tournament for 11 years now, but none of it would be possible without the support of our amazing sponsors, volunteers, and golfers year after year,” said Abbie Shick. “My grandparents may be gone from this earth, but I feel them around me constantly, and I know they are proud that we continue to donate the money we raise to one of the communities’ best causes, St. James Hospital.”

Wendy Disbrow, President and CEO of St. James Hospital, expressed deep gratitude for the Shick family’s continued support. “We’re deeply grateful to the Shick family for their continued generosity and dedication to our hospital and the people we serve. Their annual golf classic is not only a summer favorite—it directly supports the care we provide every day.”

The St. James Foundation will use the funds towards the purchase of a portable x-ray machine (C-arm) for our operating room.  This machine enhances our ability to provide spinal surgery care-such as laminectomies, fusions and kyphoplasties.

UR Medicine St. James Hospital is a diverse and comprehensive nonprofit health care system serving all of Steuben and surrounding counties in New York.
