ROCHESTER — The game was over as it started. The Hornell girls’ soccer team scored early and cruised to a season-opening 10-0 win over Mt. St. Mary of Section VI.
However, head coach Mike Wilkinson was emotional talking to the team after the game. The defending Section V champions presented their head coach with a plaque for winning his 200th career game.
After his post-game speech, Coach Wilkinson, in his 15th season, broke into a smile.
And why not? What a night to see senior leadership and incredible underclassmen shine.
Senior Parker Graham had three goals and four assists to lead Hornell (1-0) including the first two goals of the game.
In a game played in the pouring rain, 8th-grader Brynna Wilkinson shined with four goals and an assist.
Alexis Smith (assist) Brianna Kent, Ella White (two assists) all scored goals while Izabella Gardner and Raegan Evingham had assists.
