Rain Game GALLERY: Hornell – 3, LeRoy / Cal-Mum – 0
The Hornell Red Raiders remain unbeaten and improve to 11-0-2 on the season with their shutout win over the LeRoy/Cal-Mum Rivals at home Tuesday night.
After beating the Rivals 2-0 on the road two weeks ago, the Red Raiders knew that Tuesday’s game was going to be a big test. Coming into the game, the Rivals had only lost 2 games all season. Hornell played a top-notch game and came out with the 3-0 win.
Freshman Anatole Colson got the Red Raiders on the board with just under 11 minutes left in the first half. Wyatt Evingham set up a perfect through-ball to Colson to give Hornell the 1-0 lead.
Evingham put Hornell up 2-0 with :12 left on the clock before halftime off an assist by Gabe Rasephei.
The rain picked up as both teams were strategizing during halftime. Under a heavy downpour, Evingham found senior Jayden Rasephei who scored Hornell’s third goal of the night just 6 seconds into the second half.
Hornell goalie, Alfie Whiteley had 6 saves on the night. Whiteley has let up only 2 goals all season and has tallied an impressive 9 shutouts for the Red Raiders.
Hornell coach, Jim Tobin couldn’t have been more proud of his boys Tuesday night. Reflecting on the game, he commented, “This was, by far our best game of the year. Our goalie and defenders shutout one of the premier teams in Section V tonight. The midfielders, led by Cody Cardamone, Marco Picco, Anatole Colson, & Gabe Rasephei played so hard. And, offensively, Wyatt Evingham and Jayden RAsephei were great together.”
With just 3 games left in the regular season, the Red Raiders are currently seeded #2 in Class B behind Mynderse. Hornell will celebrate the 11 seniors Thursday night before their matchup with Way-Co. They will take on Class AA Wilson Magnet on Friday.
