The Hornell Steamers walked off the Danville Gliders 9-8 in an exciting matchup on Kid’s Day at Maple City Park on Monday afternoon. Hornell improved to 5-4-1 on the season with the victory in front of nearly 900 school age kids.

The Steamers got the scoring started in the bottom of the 2nd, scoring four runs on a two-run single by Wyatt Argentieri (Genesee Community College) and a two-run double by Markus Brehm (Finger Lakes Community College).

The Gliders answered right back in the top of the 3rd with two runs of their own on an RBI infield single by Kade Keown and a sacrifice fly by Maurice Martinez, cutting the Steamers lead 4-2.

The Steamers scored four more runs in the bottom of the 4th inning to grow their lead to 8-2. Brehm collected a RBI double, Cooper McEnroe (Northwestern State) followed with a two-run double and scored on a throwing error.

Dansville answered right back again with two runs of their own in the top of the 5th on an RBI walk by Caden Roy and an RBI single by Jeremy Alylward. However, Steamers pitcher Jackson Hubbard (Monroe Community College) was able to work out of a bases-loaded jam to maintain an 8-4 lead.

The Gliders inched closer to the Steamers lead in the top of the 6th, scoring one more run on a sacrifice fly by Justin Colpack and cutting the Steamers lead to three.

The Gliders were not done there, tying the game in the top of the 9th on a two-run triple by Ryan DeMartino to come within one run and Brady Ruyle tied it up with a RBI single to tie it.

The Steamers would come right back in the bottom of the 9th with a clutch walk-off RBI single by McEnroe, making the final score 9-8. Caleb Cassidy (Ponoma Pitzer) was hit by the first pitch of the inning, Dylan Walsh (Brandeis) put down a sac bunt that was thrown away. Brehm was intentionally walked to load the bases before McEnroe delivered the game-winning hit up the middle of the drawn in infield.

The Steamers were led by three outstanding offensive performances by Brehm, who was 5-5 with three RBIs, Quingyang Feng, who was 3-3 with two walks, and Walsh, who was 2-4 with an RBI.

Hubbard had a solid outing on the mound, pitching five innings, giving up four runs on four hits, and striking out four batters. TobyGleeson-Payne pitched four innings out of the pen and earned the victory.

The Gliders were led by a solid two-hit, one-RBI performance by Alylward and two clutch 9th inning hits by DeMartino and Ruyle.

The Steamers seek another win on Tuesday at Maple City Park. The first pitch is at 7 p.m.
