The Red Raiders fall to 10-6 after their road loss to HFL Monday night.
The Cougars picked up an early lead with help from Jake Weber, who scored four of his five 3s in the first quarter to put his team up by 19 points. A strong performance by all HFL players allowed them to keep a steady lead throughout the game.
Weber led his team with 15 points, followed by Marco Vengoechea with 9 points and Grady Goodberlet with 7 points.
Hornell was led by junior Cody Cardamone who led all scorers with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 assists. Ben Woolever added 9 points, while Tyrone Buchanan had 8 rebounds for the Red Raiders.

Hornell coach Kirk Scholes commented on the loss. “Tonight we got a little taste of Monroe County basketball. We struggled early to take care of the ball and knock down open shots. As the game went on I thought we got better and started to get up to speed. I thought we made some growth, but again I think we are inconsistent with things like ball fakes, shot fakes, playing off two feet. We are hoping this game will help us down the line. Learning from mistakes and getting better is the reason you schedule bigger schools. I’m hoping this will be our turning point!!
“Cody Cardamone was a stand out for us. I thought he played under control. He played with confidence, and he made the right play all night. We have been waiting for Cody to break out and tonight he took a big step against a good opponent. He has to realize he can do those same things against everybody. He was fantastic on all of his reads and he really shot the ball well. We need him down the stretch to become another offensive option for us.”
The #2 seeded Red Raiders continue with league play Thursday night on the road as they take on the #3 seed, Wayland-Cohocton Eagles.
