Birds and groundhogs along the Canisteo River
Photo journal by Janie Ferguson,
It is currently 61* and sunny at 10:15 am in Cameron Mills, NY. There is an accepted high of 70* today. Which is warmer than normal for the early spring of the year in NY. We are looking forward to it!
I begin today with a cute black-capped chickadee, and a red-winged black bird, who is showing off its colors. Next a white-breasted nuthatch, and a purple finch enjoying sunflower seeds.

My grandchildren and I also enjoyed watching this stocky groundhog as he slowly moved along. He was eating some fresh green grass, and gathering dried grass, too. They build complex burrows with many chambers, including a special nursery chamber, for their pups, which they line with soft materials for comfort. He has a burrow beneath our lilac bush just along the Canisteo River.

I hope that you who are in Steuben County, and our surrounding counties will enjoy this warmer weather we are having, and that you all have a good weekend, too.
Janie
