The Hornell Red Raiders are headed to the Class B1 Semifinals after earning their first sectional victory in three seasons with a 5-2 win over the Midlakes Screaming Eagles on Sunday afternoon.
Hornell used a balanced offensive effort and a strong outing on the mound from Julian King to secure the postseason victory. King pitched 6 innings, allowing just 2 runs and striking out three for the Red Raiders. Cody Cardamone earned the save, striking out one batter and closing it the final inning of the game.
Cardamone led the Red Raiders offensively with two hits and three stolen bases, while Alfie Whiteley, Logan Henderson, and Marco Picco each added a single in the win. King led his team with 2 RBIs.
With the victory, Hornell advances to face the Haverling Rams in the sectional semifinal matchup on Wednesday.
