Bath NY’s hometown library has new color and fun characters for kids
By Janie Ferguson,
I’d like to introduce you to Catherine Davis. You’ve seen her mural, and now you get to know her a little more today. We sat down at the Dormann Library last week together as my grandchildren worked on their computer lessons. She is the Library Assistant there now.
Her biggest supporter through her nineteen years has been her father Jeff, who also works at the library. Through the years that I’ve been coming to the library I’ve known both of them, but just found out today that they were related. As we were talking he just happened to walk up behind her as I was getting a picture of Catherine, and I asked him if we could get one of them together. He knelt down next to her for this shot. She says, “He uplifts, encourages, and pushes me to continue on with my painting. He also paints, too, although he doesn’t really like me to say so.”

She enjoys painting miniature watercolors, also, and they have been displayed at the library. Here is one of her favorites of an imagined cottage.

She said she was home-schooled, and pretty much painted all through her childhood. She does a rough draft first, and then continues on to paint free hand.
She said she wanted to paint the mural to add some fun, and a pop of color for those in Bath. Also, to make something everyone could enjoy looking at, without having to pay for it.
When I asked her what her most meaningful compliment was that she’s had while painting the mural, she said, “While I was painting one day a man stopped by, and said, “That sure is a God given talent that you have.” You could tell she was pleased that he said that to her, and for sure it really is!
Later we went outside together with the children, and as they chatted she had them name the book characters that they saw. Do you know who they all are? Can you name any of them? Here is a photo of that time together, that the children enjoyed, too.
It’s been almost a week now since these pictures were taken. We will see tomorrow how it is progressing
Thank you, Catherine, for sharing your talent with us!
