Dorr C. Dunbar, Sr. of Holland, NY passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo at the age of 96.
Born on December 15, 1929, in Genesee, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Robert Charles and Edna Mae (Heggins) Dunbar. Dorr proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War as a Military Policeman. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long career at Republic Steel in Buffalo, where he worked as a Shear Foreman.
Dorr was a member of the Holland American Legion and attended the First Baptist Church of Holland. A gifted handyman, he generously shared his talents by helping with the church’s construction and renovation projects over the years. Blessed with an exceptional memory, he loved traveling, studying maps, and discussing the best routes to destinations with family and friends. He also enjoyed working on and repairing automobiles, watching western movies, and was an avid admirer of John Wayne.
His beloved wife, Jill (Stocum) Dunbar, whom he married on August 30, 1952, in Scio, NY, preceded him in death on June 28, 2024.
He is survived by his children: Dorr C. (Tracy) Dunbar, Jr. of Texas, Dixie (the late Mark) Leffler of Grand Island, Rebecca (John) Schueler of Holland, and Kimberly Larson of Texas. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Dorr was predeceased by his siblings, Robert Dunbar, Phillip Dunbar, and Hattie “Lou” Moore-Slough.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main Street, Arcade, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Michael Hoppe officiating. Final interment with military honors will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in Knights Creek Cemetery, Scio, NY.
