What is a HAB ?
A Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) is the rapid, out-of-control overgrowth of algae or cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) in aquatic environments. These blooms occur naturally in warm, slow-moving waters enriched by excess nutrients, and they can produce highly potent toxins capable of severely harming humans, pets, wildlife, and local ecosystems. – From Noaa.gov
