My name is Frederic W. Voss, and today I’m officially announcing my candidacy for Mayor of Hornell as an independent write-in candidate in the upcoming November election.
I may not have been born in Hornell but I chose to make it my home. I’ve invested in this community with my time, my energy, and my heart. And now I’m running because I believe Hornell is capable of so much more than what we’ve been settling for.
For too long, leadership in this city has focused on appearance over substance, preservation of power over service to people. Decisions are made behind closed doors. Economic development is a buzzword, not a plan. Our young people lack opportunity, our adults lack venues, and our small businesses are being crushed under the weight of minimum order requirements and regulatory roadblocks.
That’s not vision. That’s stagnation dressed up in grant money and press releases. That’s why I’m introducing a platform that doesn’t just criticize, it builds.
One of my cornerstone initiatives is the H.O.R.N.E.L.L. Cooperative Network (Helping Our Retailers Navigate Economic Logistics Locally). It’s a practical solution that, amongst other things, would allow the city to act as a bulk buyer and warehousing partner for small businesses, helping them survive and thrive against corporate competition. It’s bold, it’s doable, and it’s designed with Hornell in mind.
But this campaign isn’t about one policy. It’s about changing the mindset of leadership from reactive to proactive, from insider politics to public service.
I’m not backed by any party machine. I’m not bought. I’m not beholden. I’m running as a write-in because I believe leadership should be earned not handed out in back rooms.
I’ve already begun meeting with business owners, union leaders, and community members who want something better for Hornell. If you’re one of them, I want to hear from you.
Together, we can declare our independence – from mediocrity, from stale politics, and from the idea that this is as good as it gets.
Let’s build a future we’re proud to hand off to the next generation.
