Large crowds expected, open container law lifted, big party expected

The countdown for the  “Shortest” Saint Patricks Day parade sponsored by the Allegany County Ancient Order of Hibernian (AOH)  Division has begun!  AOH Event Coordinator Brian Cannon advises everyone “to arrive early, as Village Police will start shutting down the main parade block at about 4 pm and  dress warm for the various changes in weather we can see this time of year.   We will be lining up the various parade units from 4 pm to 4:20 pm and hope to have an “official” Village of Wellsville measurement of the 12 foot long parade route.

We expect that weather permitting the Village DPW will be putting the green stripes of the parade route across Main Street intersection with Eaton, Court(the alley between From the Hart and the Wellsville Brewing Company.)   We will have our sound system  at Eaton Court to announce the parade participants and provide Irish music before and after the parade.  Our local Wellsville, NY Unit 70 American Legion Auxiliary Color Guard Present the USA Flag and Colors after the measurement and the Shortest parade will start after the singing of the National Anthem by Local Wellsville High School Senior Ashden Hyslip.”

Spectators will view the parade from the sidewalk areas on both sides of the Main Street.  We are expecting a very large group of parade spectators this year so please arrive early, be considerate and above all have some great family fun in our Main Street Business district!   Virtually all the restaurants are open before and after the parade and most have Irish food specials so do not leave the event hungry!

Nick Davis of Genesee Valley Media will try to capture the parade on video of the weather allows his drone to fly.   The weather is supposed to be in the mid to high 40s with possibly some light rain at the 4:30 pm Parade Start Time.T ravel safe, have fun and enjoy a great afternoon Shortest parade in downtown Wellsville, NY!   Slainte!
