The City of Hornell’s Board of Public Safety recognized Firefighter Mathew Donovan for earning his paramedic certification at their August meeting. Donovan completed the paramedic program through Monroe Community College (MCC) and successfully passed both the final examinations at MCC, as well as the New York State and National Paramedic Board exam. He is now fully certified as a paramedic with the Hornell Fire Department (HFD).
Fire Chief Frank Brzozowski highlighted Donovan’s success and good nature, stating, “Matt has done a great job throughout the program. He maintained high marks in his coursework and performed well during clinical field training. Paramedic school is highly stressful, especially for those balancing demanding jobs, family responsibilities, and in Matt’s case, also serving as a volunteer chief. Despite the pressure, he excelled and still managed to keep things lighthearted, often keeping his classmates in good spirits. We are very proud of him and this achievement.”
Mayor John Buckley also praised Donovan’s achievement, stating, “Matt has done an excellent job as a firefighter for our department. We are excited to see him advance his education and career as a paramedic. Our community is fortunate to have a dedicated department of highly-trained firefighters committed to responding to fire and medical emergencies. This is a significant achievement, and it shows Matt’s commitment not just to the department, but to the people of the Hornell community.”
Congratulations and thank you to Firefighter Donovan for completing paramedic school, passing his boards, and continuing his service and commitment to our community!
