The Bath Rotary Club recently provided funds, including funds from a Rotary District 7120 Grant for the purchase of a freezer in the Ram-Mart of the Bath Central School District. The school itself paid for the remaining cost of the freezer. Tess McKinley, Bath Rotarian, serving as the club’s Volunteer Chair and Strategic Planning Committee Chair, who is also a member of the Bath Central School District Board of Education, wrote the grant and worked with Kelly Houck, Superintendent of the Bath Central School District, who is herself a Bath Rotarian, in the purchase of the freezer. “This project was a great partnership and indeed provided a most well-needed appliance,” stated McKinley.
The Ram-Mart, a School Food Center, for the Bath Central School District, provides nutritious and accessible food options completely free to the district, team members, students, and families. It is stocked with essential food items, including: fresh produce, canned goods, cereal, milk, margarine, meat, and other nutritious options. Not only can groceries be sent home with students, but students can also access snacks or other ready-to-eat items throughout the day if they are hungry or are staying after school for some activity.
“Providing access to healthy, nourishing food year-round is a priority for the Bath Central School District, and the Ram-Mart remains a vital part of that mission,” stated Superintendent Houck. “We are so grateful to the Bath Rotary Club and Rotary District 7120 for its generosity. The donation made has made it possible for us to purchase a much-needed additional freezer for the Ram-Mart, helping us to continue to serve our students and the community.”
McKinley and Eddie VanStine, Bath Rotary Club President, recently took a brief tour of the new Bath Central School District’s Capital Projects, led by Houck, and were able to view the freezer at that time.
