In a serious Sunday afternoon crash in rural Yates County, three individuals were flown to a hospital after a car struck a horse-drawn buggy, and the horse involved had to be euthanized.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Town of Barrington, on Six Corners Road between Haley Hill Road and Bossard Road. According to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the automobile, 38-year-old Alisha Wheeler of Dundee, was travelling southbound when her vehicle rear-ended the horse and buggy. The force of the collision threw the buggy’s occupants from the vehicle.
The buggy was being driven by 31-year-old Daniel Nolt of Dundee, with 25-year-old Linda Nolt and a child riding along. All three were seriously injured and airlifted by helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for treatment. Wheeler and her passenger (a child) escaped injury.
Tragically, the horse suffered injuries that led to euthanasia at the scene. Authorities charged Wheeler with a traffic ticket for “following too closely.”
Emergency responders from many agencies arrived to assist, including fire and ambulance services, the county’s Emergency Operations Center, an accident investigation team, and air medical units. Six Corners Road was temporarily closed near the crash site but has since reopened to traffic.
The crash remains under investigation by the Yates County Sheriff’s Office.
