Gies: Pattern of Votes Continues to Harm Quality of Life for NY-23 Families

From Aaron Gies for Congress,

Olean, New York — Aaron Gies, candidate for the NY-23 Congressional seat, today sharply criticized Representative Nick Langworthy for voting against extending Affordable Care Act (ACA) healthcare subsidies, warning that the decision will raise healthcare costs for working families and seniors across New York’s 23rd Congressional District.

“These subsidies are the difference between affordable coverage and families being forced to skip care, prescriptions, or preventative screenings,” said Gies. “Representative Langworthy’s vote against extending these healthcare subsidies puts ideology ahead of the real needs of his constituents.”

Gies emphasized that the vote fits a troubling pattern in Langworthy’s record. In addition to opposing the ACA subsidy extension, Langworthy has supported recent cuts to childcare funding for New York State residents — a move that places additional financial strain on working parents already facing rising costs of living.

“When you vote to make healthcare more expensive and simultaneously cut childcare support, you are directly undermining the stability of families and the economic security of our communities,” Gies continued. “These choices don’t just affect budgets — they affect whether parents can go to work, whether children have safe care, and whether seniors can afford their medications.”

According to Gies, the combined impact of higher healthcare costs and reduced childcare funding threatens the overall quality of life for residents of NY-23, particularly middle-class families, small business owners, and seniors on fixed incomes.

“NY-23 deserves leadership that fights to lower costs, expand access to care, and strengthen families — not policies that make life harder for the people who already work hard every day,” Gies said. “Representative Langworthy’s record continues to show a pattern of decisions that damage the wellbeing of the people he was elected to serve.”

Gies called on Langworthy to reverse course and support policies that protect affordable healthcare and invest in families across Western and Central New York.
