The effort to gather information on draftees from Hornell – Hornellsville is underway

From Chris Olix, Captain US Army Reserve, NYNG Retired
The civil war monument located at the Hope Cemetery in Hornell is incomplete and has been so since its creation and placement in the cemetery in 1890. It was placed there by civil war veterans and their families.
We are looking for information on Hornellsville residents who were drafted into the Union Army in July of 1863 and later. We have attached a partial list of who we believe these draftees were at the bottom of the page. However, in many cases it is apparent that many of the names were misspelled, and in some cases the first name of the individual is not known. So, we need help by anyone in the Hornell area that may be able to provide us with information on these draftees.
In addition to their full name, we would like to know which military units they belonged to and if they were Killed In Action (KIA), Died in the Service (DIS), were wounded in action (WIA), prisoners of war (POW)or discharged for disability (DFD).
Also, we would like to know if they were honorably discharged. The year of their death and burial location if known would also be appreciated.
Below are the lists for the Hornellsville draftees. Please send any information you have on these draftees to the attention of Chris Olix at caolix@verizon.net.
Thank you for your support on this long overdue project to honor our local Civil War veterans.
