The Hornell Red Raiders picked up three wins in the last three days, improving their record to 4-4 on the season moving to 5th place in the Class B1 standings.
The Red Raiders hosted the Letchworth Legends Friday night at Maple City Park. Sophomore Keegan Matt struck out six batters in 6 1/3 innings and earned the 7-4 win for Hornell. Marco Picco went 2-3 with 2 stolen bases and an RBI. Nash Adams and Cody Cardamone also notched 2 stolen bases apiece. Julian King led the Red Raiders with 3 RBIs followed by Christian Valle with 2.
Back to work on Monday, Hornell hosted the Warsaw Tigers. Cody Cardamone struck out 11 batters, leading the Red Raiders to a 13-3 victory. Cardamone gave up just 2 hits and 3 runs over 5 innings. Hornell got on the board early, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the first. However, a 3-run homer over the left field fence by Warsaw’s Brayden Merritt tied the game. Hornell added 3 runs in the bottom of the third and seven more in the 5th inning for the win. Alfie Whiteley, Christian Valle, and Tyrone Buchanan all hit doubles for the Red Raiders, while Nick Gray and Julian King each added 2 RBIs in the winning effort.
After a short break, the Red Raiders welcomed the Campbell-Savona Panthers to finish the game that started April 15th in Campbell. Hornell was leading 8-1, and the Panthers were just heading to the field to start the 5th inning when the game was postponed due to lightening. The game resumed in the top of the 5th inning at Maple City Park where Hornell claimed the 15-2 victory. Senior Christian Valle went 5 for 5 in the game and tallied an impressive 8 stolen bases and 3 RBIs for the Red Raiders. Julian King earned the win, pitching 6 total innings spanning two different dates. King struck out 7 batters and gave up just one run in his impressive performance on the mound.
The Red Raiders will host the Wayland-Cohocton Eagles Wednesday afternoon at 5:00pm for their next LCAA matchup. Way-Co sits as the #4 seed with a 6-4 record in Class B1.
