Gary Robert Owen, passed away June 22 at his residence.

Gary was born July 29, 1950 in Wellsville, NY to Robert J. Owen and Barbara Richardson Owen.

He graduated from Wellsville Central School class of 1969 (Wellsville, NY) and attended Alfred State College, degree as an electrician.

Gary was an involved local citizen, a friendly face wherever he went. In his youth, as an Eagle Scout with the Boys Scouts, a volunteer at Wellsville Fire Department McEwan company and the Christian Temple church. Later, as a member of the American Legion Post 821 in Clayton, NY.

Gary never liked to be inside. He was an avid boater and his favorite thing was watching the action on the St. Lawrence river from his home in Clayton, NY. Always busy and often outdoors, Gary’s hobbies ranged from camping to snow mobile racing and water skiing. He enjoyed vacationing with his boat and went with his family on trips to the Rideau in Canada. His work often found a way to marry a hobby, first as owner of Southern Tier Off Road Center in Wellsville, NY and later at Ballantyne RV and Penn Yan boats. Gary was truly a man of the water.

He is survived by a daughter Kristen Rebecca (Owen) Bechara and son-in-law Mark Bechara and their two grandchildren Elias Bechara and Isabella Bechara; a son, Mark David Owen; one brother, David Owen, sister-in-law Kari Owen and a nephew, Derek Owen and great-niece Emilia Owen; as well as many friends.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, July 25, from 3:00 – 5:00pm at the Clayton American Legion. He will be buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellsville, N.Y. at a later date.
