BATH – Foster parents were recently honored at the annual Steuben County Department of Social Services’ “Forget Me Not” banquet, held at the American Legion in Addison. County DSS Commissioner Kathryn Muller told foster parents they give their children foundations and roots, a childhood with days made for sunshine, and a nourishing memory of home.

May is National Foster Parent Appreciation Month. Steuben County DSS currently has 40 certified foster/adoptive homes who have made the selfless decision to open their hearts and homes to serve the children and families in need in Steuben.
Foster parents provide countless hours of care to families and children in need while having a significant, lifelong influence in the life of a foster child or youth. Steuben DSS is thankful for the level of dedication and commitment that the foster families continue to demonstrate, particularly throughout the pandemic.
In Steuben, there is an immediate need for foster families with a stay-at-home parent to care for the very young, or families who can help adolescents acquire the practical, social, and emotional skills necessary for successful transition to adult independence.
