BUNCH, OKLA. – Evelyn M. Cornell, 82, formerly of Greenwood, passed away on Tuesday (October 25, 2022) at the home of her daughter, surrounded by family.

Mrs. Cornell was born on March 2, 1940 in Scio to Albert and Flora (Madison) Lounsberry. Evelyn is known affectionately to friends and family as “Ezzie”, a nickname given by her baby sister. In 1945, her parents purchased a farm in Greenwood where they moved. Evelyn attended Greenwood Central School from kindergarten until she graduated in 1958. Evelyn married Clair M. Cornell at Greenwood United Methodist Church on January 3, 1959. He predeceased her on September 14, 2006.

In 1972, Clair accepted a position as a welding instructor in Kansas which caused them to relocate. They also lived in Wyoming, Nevada, and Arizona until returning to Greenwood in 1992 to care for Evelyn’s aging parents. Evelyn loved the community of Greenwood and volunteered her time, her efforts, and untold batches of spaghetti sauce whenever requested for fundraisers. She was appreciated for her work ethic but she was loved because of her generosity, hospitality, and kindness.

In 2021, Evelyn moved to live with her daughter, Karen (Douglas) Maher of Bunch, Okla. Evelyn is also survived by another daughter Susan Cornell of Kyogle, Australia; two sons, Randy Cornell of Riverton, Wyo. and Gregory Cornell of Nokesville, Va.; a brother Robert (Mattie) Lounsberry; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband of 48 years, she was predeceased by two sisters, Louise (Richard) Nye and Kathleen (John) Murray; one brother, Glenn (Bernice) Lounsberry; and one grandson, Jacob Cornell.

Per Evelyn’s wishes there will be no prior visitation. A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday (November 19) at 2:00 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Christian Mattison of the Andover First Presbyterian Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover.
