Through wins and losses, the story of the season for the Hornell Red Raiders softball team has been the incredible play of the underclassmen … make that middle school students.

With a 5-6 record and a perfect night to honor the seniors, the soon-to-be-graduates decided to steal the headlines.

Seniors Jane Spitulnik, Cassidy Cook and Anna Updyke all had hits to power the offense to a 9-0 victory over Alfred-Almond as Hornell improved to 6-6.

In the circle for Hornell, 8th-grader Jordyn Dyring tossed a complete game 3-hit shutout with six strikeouts and did not walk a batter.

Also for Hornell, Parker Graham and Ireland Harrison each had had a two-RBI single, Kaden McGregor was 2-for-4 while Izzy Barnes walked twice, scored twice and had a hit.

For Alfred Almond, Olivia Flaitz and Taylor Flaitz singled while Ali Hurd belted a triple.

Olivia Flatiz struck out four in the circle for A-A.
