Charges filed in wake of July 7th police chase through Steuben County

The pursuit stated in Schuyler County, ended in Hammondsport

27 year old Corning man arrested, read prior 2020 arrest

A police chase that began in Watkins Glen and ended in Hammondsport has landed a Corning man in hot water with the law. According to the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened July 7th and involved 27-year-old Semachiah McDuffie.

His charges now include unlawfully fleeing a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation and…much, much more. Additional court action is pending. By the way, police said they recovered fake cash and a stun gun.

In 2020, Steuben County Sheriff Allard reported this arrest of Mcduffie

“Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on December 23, 2020, deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Roy D. Hyer, age 43, of State Route 415, Bath, New York, and Semachiah L. McDuffie, age 26, of Dodge Avenue, Corning, New York, following a vehicle stop on Liberty Street in the Village of Bath, New York. It is alleged that Mr. Hyer and Mr. McDuffie possessed a quantity of suspected illegal narcotics packaged for sale and that Mr. McDuffie possessed a hypodermic needle. Mr. Hyer was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree, a Class D Felony, and Mr. McDuffie was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree, a Class D Felony, and Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument. Mr. Hyer was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and held without bail due to an outstanding warrant and previous felony convictions. Mr. McDuffie was arraigned and released.
