Dansville rallies to defeat Hornell

Connor Kiefer is Hornell’s Player of the Game

Dansville used a big 7th and 8th inning to rally to defeat the Hornell Steamers on 9-4 on Wednesday evening. 

The Gliders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st before Hornell rallied. Peyton Johnson (Indiana U of PA) got Hornell on the board with a RBI single in the 1st and Devin Mersmann (Alfred State) followed with a RBI single in the 2nd to tie it up.

Hornell took the lead in the 4th inning when Mersmann hit a sac fly and Connor Kiefer (Monroe CC) scored on a throwing error.

The game remained 4-2 until the 7th when Dansville scored four runs to take the lead. They added three more runs in the 8th to take control of the contest.

Kiefer was 3 for 4 to lead Hornell’s eight hit offense. Max Schmarder (Tusculum) was 2 for 4.

Craig Sodano was 2 for 3 with a RBI, Johnny Briody was 2 for 4 with a RBI, while Billy Richards, Tim Richards, and John Susnik were each 2 for 5. 

George Viebrock earned the win with six innings of work while Jason Rivera worked three scoreless innings with four strikeouts to earn the save.
