Tonight’s head-to-head with Olean postponed until Tuesday July 19

The Hornell Steamers used the combination of solid pitching and timely hitting in a 6-1 weather shortened game at Dansville on Sunday. The Steamers improve to 21-16 on the year with five regular season games remaining.

Hornell batted around in the 2nd as they took a 4-0 lead. Peyton Johnson (Indiana U of PA) collected a RBI single, Max Schmarder (Tusculum) hit a sac fly, Torrey Roper (Indiana U of PA) doubled home a run, and Connor Kiefer (Monroe CC) hit a RBI ground out.

In the 4th, Kiefer hit a two run homer off the building in left field to add to the lead.

Joe Dolansky (Indiana U of PA) kept the Gliders off balance as he earned his fourth victory of the summer. Dolansky didn’t allow a hit until the 6th. He finished the game throwing 5.2 innings of two hit ball. He allowed a run in the 6th before the teams were taken off the field because of lightning. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out five.

Johnson and Roper were each 2 for 3 with a RBI while Colton Burd (Indiana U of PA) was 2 for 3. Kiefer was 1 for 4 with 3 RBI.

Wet weather and the threat of more rain has forced the Hornell Steamers to push back their game vs. the Olean Oilers to tomorrow night (7/19).

Hornell and Olean will meet for the 7th time this season starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night.
