WELLSVILLE — The Wellsville Lady Lions were the only unbeaten left in Allegany and Steuben County play. Back on their home court Friday, it would remain as such, as they took four victories out of the five matches that were showcased against visiting Alfred-Almond, including a sweep of the doubles matches to fuel a 4-1 decision that saw them record their sixth straight win to begin the season.

Both doubles match wins for the Lady Lions (6-0) were recorded in straight sets, including a hard-fought battle from the first doubles team of Caitlin Bittel and Hanna Miles, as they fought through a tight first set battle against Alfred-Almond’s Beatrice Beaudry and Jennifer Bensley to record a near-dominant finish by a 6-4, 6-2 count.

The second doubles team of Kelsey Seely and McKenna Wonderling would follow suit with a strong victory (6-1, 6-1) over Eleanor Drozeski and Natalie Roberts to finish off the department sweep.

In the singles matches, Wellsville would take two out of three, both in straight sets, led by a 6-2, 6-4 finish from Samantha Bidzerkowny at second singles, as she knocked off Sophia Symeslatini to record the triumph. Putting a bow on the match victory at third singles was Sarah Mattison, who fought tooth and nail in the first set with Anna Yarnal to deliver a strong finish of her own doing in a 6-4, 6-1 win.

Alfred-Almond’s lone win would come at first singles from Candy Zhou, as she navigated towards triumph with a straight-set win over Meagan Riley that consisted of a victorious second-set tiebreak.
