Steuben County Veterans Services has increased outreach efforts

The Steuben County Veterans Services Agency (VSA) has increased its outreach this year, according to a recent report to the county Legislature’s Health, Education and Human Services Committee.

Efforts so far this year include participating in 20 outreach events throughout the county with 400 face-to- face encounters with veterans.

Agency representatives now meet with veterans from 11 am to 1 pm on the first Wednesday of every month at the Wayland Free Library and are working to establish standing dates and times for veteran access in Hornell and Corning., according to the report.

“Bath is centrally located and has access to other services for our veterans, especially the VA,” said VSA Director Gary Smith. “But many of our veterans live in rural areas, and especially with the price of gas, it’s harder for them to come here.”

The VSA also uses the Steuben County Facebook page to publish news of interest to county veterans.

Projects in the works include producing an informational flyer that Steuben legislators can present at their respective city/towns/village meetings and will be posted for easy reference for our veterans.

The VSA is located at 7001 County Route 113, Bath and may be contacted at (607) 664-2527.
