Steuben County Sheriff deputies make two felony DWI arrests

All those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on December 8, 2022, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Corey J. Kaukeinan, age 29, of Paul Boulevard, Rochester, New York, following an investigation into a reported person slumped over the steering wheel in a vehicle in the Town of Erwin. It is alleged that Mr. Kaukeinan operated a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition. It is further alleged that Mr. Kaukeinan was not licensed nor permitted to operate a motor vehicle in the State of New York and that he was convicted in the previous ten years for an impaired or intoxicated driving offense. Mr. Kaukeinan was charged with Driving While Intoxicated as a Felony, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the First Degree, both Class E Felonies, and Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated Greater than .18% Blood Alcohol Content. Mr. Kaukeinan was released on traffic summons to appear in the Town of Erwin Court at a later date.

On December 10, 2022, deputies arrested Garth D. Hurlburt, III, age 32, of Hornell, New York, following an investigation into a reported leaving the scene rollover one vehicle crash on McBeth Road in the Town of Howard. It is alleged that Mr. Hurlburt operated a motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition, crashed his vehicle off the roadway and fled the scene. It is further alleged that Mr. Hurlburt had a previous conviction within ten years of an impaired or intoxicated driving offense. Mr. Hurlburt was charged with Driving While Intoxicated as a Felony, Alcohol or Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle on a Highway, Fail to Stop at a Stop Sign, Fail to Keep Right, Leaving the Scene of a Crash, Refusal to submit to Breath Screening Device and No Seat Belt. Mr. Hurlburt was released on traffic summons to appear in the Howard Town Court at a later date.
