Langworthy was sworn in office at 1:40am this morning

The US House of Representatives finally has a leader. California Congressman Kevin McCarthy has finally succeed in his bid to become Speaker of the House.
During the fifteen votes, the hand wringing and elbow twisting didn’t move newly elected Congressman from the 23rd Congressional District. Nick Langworthy has voted for Kevin McCarthy every time as part of a mainstream Republican contingent that repeatedly fell short of the necessary votes. Until early Saturday morning, the fifteenth time a charm.
The group of over twenty members refused to vote for McCarthy finally capitulated to what has amounted to a national embarassment. The week without an organized House of Representatives was more than just media fodder, the stalemate has been a national security risk and created a frozen federal government. Without a leader, the legislative branch of US government can not function, other than to vote on a leader and vote to adjourn.
Langworthy has stated that his support for McCarthy was never in doubt:
“Kevin McCarthy led us to a majority and he will be an incredible leader for the House of Representatives. We will keep our Commitment to America by reducing inflation, securing our borders, taking on China and fighting for safer communities for all of us. I am proud to give Speaker McCarthy my steadfast support and look forward to getting to work for the people of Western New York and the Southern Tier.” – Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23)
Congressman Langworthy represents the 23rd Congressional District of New York including Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben Counties and parts of Erie County.
Shortly after the Speaker of the House was installed, Langworthy and other Congressmen and women-elect took a group oath of office. Only after that oath can the members be given committee assignments and begin the work they are elected to do. Langworthy is more than ready to get on with the business of representing the newly redrawn 23rd Congressional District.
What role will his loyalty to McCarthy play in Langworthy’s future remains to be seen. His role in this first, and historic political drama of the session appears to have been a part well played.
