When it comes to the Section V tournament, one player steps up each year each class, and dominates a game.
Carson Chaffee did just that on Tuesday night, scoring 36 points to lead Canisteo-Greenwood in the Section V tournament with a 75-50 win over Williamson.
The performance will get him in the Section V record book for top scoring games in tournament history.
“We started off in a full court man and after about four or five possessions, I realized we weren’t getting much benefit out of it. We then decided to go into a 1-2-2 half court trap back into 3-2 which seem to help cause some turnovers,” said Canisteo-Greenwood coach Brad Hoyt. “They were pretty small team, so our length made it difficult for me to pass over top.”
Sage Kleese is also making a difference. he scored 14.
“As far as Sage starting the last several games, he has been playing better rebounding better he had 14 points tonight and it’s tough to teach 6-foot-6,” Hoyt said.
Canisteo-Greenwood will now take on Geneseo.
‘As far as the next game goes, we’re at Geneseo on Friday night. I don’t know much about them other than they’re quite good,” he said. “They have six seniors, so they should have lots of experience and we’re starting two freshman so their experience could be to their benefit. We Will toss it up and see what happens.”
