Curtis Shultz will lead the 2023 Hornell Steamers

Shultz has had a wide variety of experiences early in his coaching career

Hornell Steamers General Manager Paul Welker is excited to have Shultz on board. “I have been really impressed with Curtis from day one. He was recommended by former Dodger manager Tony Fuller and former player Jake Marinelli. I expect the 2023 team to work hard and bring excitement to Maple City Park.”

Shultz pitched four years at Cazenovia College. He appeared in 19 games out of the Wildcats bullpen. Academically, he earned a bachelor degree in human services with a minor in psychology. He was on the dean’s list and was a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Scholar Athlete.

His coaching experience includes both college and summer experience. He was an assistant coach with the Interstate Collegiate Baseball League and with Diamond Pro in the summer of 2021. He served as the pitching coach and athlete recruiting coordinator at Cazenovia during the 2021-22 school year before serving as an assistant coach with the Geneva Red Wings of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.

Shultz works as a pitching instructor at Diamond Pro Baseball in Rochester and assists at Keuka College.

Shultz and the Steamers start the 2023 season on June 5 when they travel to Horseheads to battle the Hitmen. The home opener at Maple City Park is on Saturday, June 10.
