BATH — Representatives from law enforcement agencies across the region gathered Friday night at the Steuben County Public Safety Building for the Ninth Annual Law Enforcement Memorial.

The solemn ceremony included a bell tolling for in memory of each of the 32 officers who have died in the line of duty, the laying of memorial wreaths,  and the singing of the National Anthem and “America The Beautiful” by area high school students. Local and state government officials spoke of the sacrifice of those who died, and those family members who suffered the incomparable loss.

Quoting Abraham Lincoln, former Congressman Joe Sempolinski, R-Canisteo summed up the evening’s remarks: “We take increased devotion to that cause for which they here gave the last full measure of devotion.”
