NY State Police make vehicular manslaughter arrest stemming from November 2020 crash

One vehicle accident in the town of Grove NY claimed the life of Brian J. Hitchcock of Liverpool NY

The patience of law enforcement was displayed this week with the arrest of William Hitchcock Jr., age 48 of Livonia NY. Hitchcock was charged with one count of felony vehicular manslaughter with a blood alcohol content over .18%, after over two years of investigation. Hitchcock was the driver of a pickup truck that went off the road in the northern Allegany County town of Grove on November 28, 2020. Brian J. Hitchcock, age 43, of Liverpool NY was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troop A Public Information Officer Trooper James O’Callaghan confirmed today that blood toxicology reports were delayed due to the pandemic and other factors. Here is the NYS Police report on that November 2020 accident:

On November 28, 2020 at 8:53 P.M., Troopers out of SP Amity responded to a one vehicle collision on State Route 70 in the town of Grove.  Further investigation revealed that a 2017 Chevrolet operated by William J. Hitchcock Jr., 48 of Livonia, NY was traveling northbound on State Route 70 and exited the roadway striking a ditch which subsequently overturned the vehicle.  William Hitchcock Jr. was transported to Noyes Memorial Hospital then to Strong Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  The passenger, Brian J. Hitchcock, 43 of Liverpool, NY was pronounced deceased at the scene.

NYSP Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted in this investigation.

Based on the arrest report from the NYS Police, Hitchcock was released on his own recognizence for future court date.
