Farmers markets are more than food, they are community builders

You’ve seen the bumper stickers, “No Farms, No Food,” and I’ve never heard anyone argue with that. That slogan could easily be extended, with just as much truth, to “No Farms, No Community.”
In Alfred, the local farmers market has put that statement into action. This weekly farmers market held on Sunday’s during the growing season, brings the community together. Local farmers build relationships with Alfred University students, business owners come together and share ideas. Andover residents meet Almond residents at the blueberry stand, they become friends on Facebook and share recipes for years to come. Children play with painted faces, local music legends like Dave Mason pour acoustic guitar into the market air. These things can not be purchased, quantified, or recreated outside of the Alfred Farmers Market. Almost everyone leaves with something good to eat and feeling glad to be part of that community.
