The City of Hornell and the Hornell Police Department proudly announce the promotion of Police Officer Daniel Murray to the position of sergeant. Murray was officially appointed as sergeant at the Board of Public Safety’s August meeting.

A lifelong City of Hornell resident, Sergeant Murray has been a dedicated officer with the Hornell Police Department for over 8 years. “I’m really excited and grateful for this opportunity,” stated Sergeant Murray to the Board upon his appointment.

Mayor John Buckley states, “Sergeant Murray’s steadfast commitment to upholding the values of the department and ensuring the safety of the community has made him a standout officer.  He brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise through his experience, advanced training, and field training work. Sergeant Murray is an asset to our department, and I look forward to seeing him grow into this leadership position.”

Members of the Board commended Sergeant Murray for consistently maintaining a composed and professional demeanor in all interactions throughout his career.  Commissioner David Parmely emphasized, “Throughout his 8 years of service, Sergeant Murray has done an exceptional job and has exceeded expectations, earning several commendations. Additionally, he has assumed the role of a mentor, providing invaluable guidance and training to our younger officers.” Sergeant Murray begins his appointment effective immediately.
