The annual Go Bowling at the Glen NASCAR Cup Series race was run on Sunday. It was a perfect day for racing under blue skies and sunshine. The race didn’t have that much drama, but there were a few surprises.

William Byron took the checkered flag at Watkins Glen on Sunday. Byron led 66 out of 90 laps to win in dominating fashion. The six year veteran now has a career best five wins on the season. Byron is now 3rd in the playoff standings behind Denny Hamlin with one regular season race remaining.

In his post race press conference Byron remarked “Yeah, I would have to think about that a little bit though,’’ when asked if he felt like it was his most dominant race win. “But it definitely feels really good, just a huge credit to the race team behind me.”

Odds on favorite Chase Elliott had a tough afternoon finishing an abysmal 32nd. Elliott made a dire fuel miscalculation leading to the poor finish. The fan favorite is now 21st in the playoff standings.

Denny Hamlin who led 17 laps, finished in 2nd. Christopher Bell who never led finished in 3rd. Martin Truex Jr is currently the playoff points leader following a 6th finish at The Glen.

What to Watch: Coke Zero Sugar 400 from Daytona, Saturday at 7 pm ET on NBC.
