Torrey has been battling severe health problems, benefit set for November 5 in Scio NY

By Andrew Harris

As a young kid I can still remember how many times Bob Torrey took the time to tell me what it was like to be a professional football player. “What was it like to play in the Super Bowl? “

I was one of thousands and Bob always shared the accomplishment and it made us all proud to have a Allegany County boy who’d played professional football.

It has been a long time since the Penn State star played in the 1981 Super Bowl XV but Torrey has remained a big precense in the community ever since. Bob has probably donated his time as a member of the Wellsville Elks Club to someone you know, or love. He has also inspired countless young athletes to dream big, go for the big leagues!!

Unfortunately getting old is hell, and Bob has had some serious health complications. You can read more about that below in a message from the Torrey Family. The bottom line is that Bob and his high-school sweetheart/wife Brenda, need help with his ongoing treatment and recovery.

Bob’s brother Jody Torrey, owner of the popular Scio eatery, “Mike’s on the Corner,” is coordinating with family and friends for a benefit to help. On November 5th, all are invited to gather at “Mike’s” for a day of great food, games, raffles, and a basket auction.

For those who can’t make the event, or want to help right away, a GoFundMe page has been set up with link below. To volunteer for the event or donate please contact Jody Torrey, 585 307 8287
