The Hornell Red Raiders traveled to the Cohocton Soccer Complex to participate in the Craig Lawrence Memorial Boys Soccer Tournament Thursday night.
The Red Raiders took on the Way-Co Golden Eagles in the opening game of the tournament. Hornell’s Gabriel Rasephei scored the first goal of the season off an assist by PJ Picco with 28 minutes left in the first half. Just one minute later, Wyatt Evingham crossed to Marco Picco to put the Raiders up 2-0. Evingham tallied his second assist of the game just before halftime when he connected with PJ Picco for Hornell’s third goal of the game.
Coming out strong in the second half, the Red Raiders connected for their final goal of the game when Marco Picco found his brother PJ 11 minutes into the half.
With 0:28 left in the game, George Baverstock scored for the Golden Eagles.
Hornell goalkeeper Alfie Whiteley had 4 saves on the night.
“It was a great start to the season,” said Hornell head coach, Jim Tobin. “Our defense led by Cody Cardamone, Demayne Dixon, Jayden Rasephei, and Kellen Crowe were solid. Offensively, PJ and Marco Picco passed the ball well tonight.”
The Red Raiders travel back to Cohocton Saturday night where they will take on the winner of the Wellsville / Alfred-Almond game.
