Laura Irene Burton, 91, entered into rest on Thursday (November 7, 2024) at Wellsville Manor Care surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Burton was born on December 3, 1932 in Howard to Benjamin J. and Irene E. (Bills) Saxton. She attended North Side in Painted Post and later earned her GED. On July 10, 1951, at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Painted Post, she married Robert S. Burton who preceded her in death on May 14, 2009.

Laura devoted the early years of her marriage to her family by being a homemaker and stay-at-home mom.  When she entered the workforce, she went to Jones Memorial Hospital where she retired in 1992 after 20 years of service in the housekeeping department.

Laura is survived by her three children, Irene Burton of Wellsville, Seth (Christine) Burton of Greenwood, and John (Cindi) Burton of Fillmore; 7 grandchildren, Angela (Jacob) Brewster, Steven Burton, Zenia (Robert) McWhirter, Ryan Ruiz, Makayla White, Jay White, and Kathryn Burton; honorary grandchildren, Caitlan Dean and Cameron Gordon; 6 great grandchildren, Makaila Brewster, Kaiden Brewster, Sheyenne McWhirter, Alyssa McWhirter, Robert McWhirter, and Sophia McWhirter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband of 57 years, Laura was preceded in death by her siblings, Ray B. Saxton and Stella M. Jackson.

Laura was a loving and devoted homemaker and mom. She was also a foster parent and caregiver to many. Her gift of hospitality often allowed her to feed and house missionaries who were visiting the area. She loved the holidays and delighted in the family traditions and events that were so important to her, especially time in the kitchen baking everyone’s favorite cookies.

As a faithful child of God, Laura was a true prayer warrior for her family, friends, and her church. She was a long-time member of Andover Alliance Church.

Visitation will be held on Saturday (November 16, 2024) at the Andover Alliance Church from 11a.m.-1 p.m. with the funeral service immediately afterward at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Philip Barner and Pastor and Grandson Robert McWhirter II, officiating. Burial will take place at Troopsburg Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband. Arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover.
